Beacon Labs is a technology nonprofit that is bridging the technology gap in the public sector. We empower policymakers and advocates to make evidence-based decisions. We're funded by Y Combinator, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Our current and past partners include the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services, the California Department of Justice, the California Department of Managed Health Care, and the Department of Veteran Affairs.
Since our launch in 2014, we’ve built the first state-level data collection system for police use of force in the United States, a large-scale data processing system to measure the quality of care for Medicare patients, a deep learning algorithm to improve community health for underserved patients, and an initiative to measure and monitor access to health care services. And we’re just getting started.
As an NGO, our belief is that new technologies can do more than generate profit. That’s why all of our work is open source and built for the public good. Software and data are incredible levers for change that can enable a few great people to make a huge positive social impact. We have been at the forefront of using data for public good for more than four years. We are committed to transparency, curiosity, and empathy. Join our small but impactful team in building radically better social services and policies for millions of people in need.
We are a always looking for talented, big-hearted and curious people looking to use their talents for the greater public good. If you don’t see a position that’s right for you, email us with your ideal role, relevant experience, and why you think you would be a good fit.
